Helping women everywhere create the future they dream of......

People are suffering. It's true. When looking over your budget, it's sometimes hard to figure out what to let go, what you can live without. Here are some tips to save money or cut costs without giving up everything.

1. Get new rate quotes for your car insurance. I really did save $600 on my car insurance by switching to Geico, lol. I swear!! My mom thought I was lying, lol. I also went through them for my homeowner's insurance and saved a couple hundred dollars there as well. Don't just call them, call every insurance company in the phone book, and ask for a rate quote, or use one of the many services online.

2. Reevaluate your cell phone plan. Can you get by with a prepaid plan? Could you use less minutes? Do you need the unlimited text plan? I might text once a month, if that. Do you use all the minutes you have? Would it be cheaper to switch to a different company? Check around and find a better plan, for less money. I switched from Nextel to At&T and cut my phone bill in half.

3. Now is a great time of year to cut those electricity costs in half. Monitor your meter, how many watts are you using? Can you turn your A/C off and open windows during the day? If you are in a cooler area (it's still in the 80's here during the day), can you use extra blankets at night instead of using heat? Are you turning lights off when you aren't using them? The computer?

4. Groceries are one of the easier things to cut costs, and at the same time, the hardest. Saving money in groceries tends to mean eating less quality foods, but you can still eat nutritious and spend less. Plan your meals around sales. Check your circulars for sales, and use coupons for the things on sale. Fresh veggies are great, but tend to cost more. Buy frozen and canned veggies. Pasta is cheap, but not that healthy. Adding different proteins and veggies to pasta to create casseroles can stretch your budget a long way. I buy most of my meats from the reduced bin. The best time to go is early in the morning. I plan my meals around those for the most part. Prepackaged meals tend to be way more expensive. An example of this is those Kraft Mac and Cheese in the individual servings. My kids are always begging me to buy them. They cost over $2 for 4 individual servings. A box of Kraft Mac and Cheese is .66 at walmart.
